Description (ex. RP-63G) |
Two newspaper clippings, stapled together. Article titles: "Frank Cummings Is Model Plane Champ, Says Contest Board" and "National Champion Collects". Handwritten on articles: "National Legionnaire 11/47". Both labeled from The National Legionnaire, November 1947. Clippings have not been scanned. The 1947 Nats was held August 18 to August 22 in Minneapolis and Monticello, Minnesota. Per the 1947 official Nats program (A2025.02.154), registration was held on August 17 from noon to midnight at the Monticello airport. Per Model Airplane News and the 1947 official Nats program (A2025.02.154), November 1947 issue, Indoor Free Flight was held at University of Minnesota Field House, Outdoor events were at the Monticello airport's field at Monticello, MN, and the Victory Banquet was at the Hotel Radisson in Minneapolis. Although some original material from the 1947 Nats advertises it as the 16th Nats, this Nats is currently considered the 21st Nats based on other historical research. The first contest that is considered the Nats by the National Model Aviation Museum is the Mulvihill Model Trophy contest event held during the 1923 international air races in St. Louis. |
