Program, mockup of official program, printed on cover: "1940 National Model Airplane Championships sponsored by Chicago Park District and Chicago Daily Times sanctioned by Contest Board of National Aeronautics Association conducted under regulations and supervision of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, July 1-6, 1940 Chicago, Illinois". Handwritten notes on left side of interior in circles and squares with arrows: "process night before", "all rubber scale", "gas A + B", "tr?", "gas Moffett finals", "Indoor + banquet". The 1940 Nats was held July 1 to 6 in Chicago, Illinois. (Registration on July 1.) Although some original material from the 1940 Nats advertises it as the 13th Nats, this Nats is currently considered the 18th Nats based on other historical research. The first contest that is considered the Nats by the National Model Aviation Museum is the Mulvihill Model Trophy contest event held during the 1923 international air races in St. Louis. |
