News release/media release/press release, typed at top of page: "From: National Aeronautic Association, Dupont Circle, Washington, D.C., For Release Wednesday, May 27th., NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MODEL AIRPLANE MEET TO DETROIT, JUNE 30 TO JULY 2", 1936 In paragraph 3, page 1: "Organization of the meet at Detroit is under the sponsorship of the aviation department of "The Detroit Times". H.S. Walesby, "Times" aviation editor, will be Director of the meet and will be assisted by Lt. H.W. Alden of the Model Committee of the NAA Contest Board. Seven of the nine events on the program call for outdoor flying, two for indoor competition. The outdoor events, which include a new contest for radio-controlled, gas engine powered model airplanes, will be held at Detroit's Wayne County Airport, indoor events at the Olympia Auditorium" In paragraph 4, page 1: "Last year's National Meet, held at St. Louis, resulted in nine new world records. Since that meet the Federation Aeronautique Internationale has acted to officially recognize international model aircraft performances. Contest officials expect this year's meet will result in a number of new American records on the international list." The 1936 Nats was held June 30 to July 2 in Detroit, Michigan. |
