Description (ex. RP-63G) |
Correspondence, letter, from Earle L. Johnson, Colonel, Air Corps, National Commander, 32nd AAF Base Unit, National Headquarters Civil Air Patrol, Bolling Field, Washington, D.C., to Albert L. Lewis, Executive Director, Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), Washington, D.C., about statement for 1946 Victory Nats given to Lt. Col. Kendall Hoyt, dated August 27, 1946. Stamped in blue ink in upper right corner "AUG 29 1946". The 1946 Nats was held Thursday, August 29 to Monday, September 2 in Wichita, Kansas. (Registration and meetings on August 29.) Per the official 1946 Nats program, Nats HQ and Indoor Free Flight was at the Wichita Forum, Rise off Water was at Crestview Lake, Radio Control and Control Line was at the Boeing B-29 parking slab, and Outdoor Free Flight was at Rawdon Field. Although some original material from the 1946 Nats advertises it as the 15th Nats, this Nats is currently considered the 20th Nats based on other historical research. The first contest that is considered the Nats by the National Model Aviation Museum is the Mulvihill Model Trophy contest event held during the 1923 international air races in St. Louis. |
