Flyer, on pink paper, event schedule, printed at top of page: "SCHEDULE OF EVENTS (Tentative and subject to change) 1949, 18th National AMA Model Airplane Meet, Olathe, Kansas, July 26 to 31...". Schedule includes flying events, registration, and Blue Angels air shows. Jim McClelland is mentioned at the bottom of the page. Per the official program (A2017.20.138), the 1949 Nats was held Monday, July 25 to Sunday, July 31 in Kansas. Registration and meetings were held on Monday, July 25 and Tuesday, July 26 and competition from Tuesday, July 26 to Sunday, July 31. Outdoor events were held at U.S. Naval Air Station, Olathe, Kansas. Indoor events were held at the Municipal Auditorium, Kansas City, Missouri. Although some original material from the 1949 Nats advertises it as the 18th Nats, this Nats is currently considered the 23rd Nats based on other historical research. The first contest that is considered the Nats by the National Model Aviation Museum is the Mulvihill Model Trophy contest event held during the 1923 international air races in St. Louis. |
