Color slide, Supermarine S.5 Schneider Cup racer in air, outdoors, stamped and handwritten on cardboard frame "8917, 31". From notes with slides: "Schneider cont'd -plus- GEPE mounts: slides used in MODEL AVIATION 'Fine tuning your Seaplane' article June 90 issue". This image was used for Robert H. Munn's article, "Floatplane Fine Tuning", published in the June 1990 issue of Model Aviation magazine. In caption on page 106, "Top picture: This beautiful model of a Supermarine S-5 Schneider Cup racer is making an all-wrong landing approach. The model is grossly misaligned on virtually every axis. The pilot may have been attempting to emulate the flight characteristics of the full-scale 1927 float racer, but that kind of rough landing can be very hard on your model floatplane." |
