Joseph J. Lucas' A-frame Twin Pusher (Free Flight) Model Airplane, which won the 1928 Mulvihill Event, and was also flown in 1926 Mulvihill Event. Model has "29" on the wing. Per The American Boy magazine, September 1928 issue, page 17: "The national outdoor champion is Joseph J. Lucas, 34, Chicago, who has built model planes for many years. His winning flight was 264 seconds."; and on page 49 of that same issue, under the heading "National Outdoor, Senior Division:", "Joseph J. Lucas, Chicago, Ill., 264 seconds, Mulvihill (N.A.A.) trophy, $100 cup, $200 cash prize, gold medal." The 1928 Nats was held June 29 to 30 in Detroit, Michigan. Some original material from the 1928 Nats advertises it as the "First National Airplane Model League of America Contests". Currently, this Nats is considered the 6th Nats based on other historical research. The first contest that is considered the Nats by the National Model Aviation Museum is the Mulvihill Model Trophy contest event held during the 1923 international air races in St. Louis. |
