John's third Radio Control model, the Bootstraps is a high wing with dihedral and a cabin fuselage. The aircraft's main feature is a removable chassis that allows for easy access to the RC components. Installed Fox 15 engine. Vacuum tube receiver still installed. 54" wingspan.

Model competed at 26 events between 1980 and 1986, including the 1984 Scale World Championships (placed 7th) and the 1986 Scale World Championships (placed 9th).     Scale Radio Control model of a Bell RP-63G Kingcobra Pinball aircraft built by Weldon Smith. Balsa framework construction covered in tissue painted to be bright orange. Weldon Smith built this model as an exact replica of the RP-63G, a version of a P-63 KingCobra, that he flew while a pilot during WWII.
